Reigning Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and collected a record £11m in earnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
