'Living a Nightmare': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Young People Await Answers After Ski Resort Inferno
The families of teens lost after a deadly inferno at a venue in a Swiss alpine town are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and appealing for clues about their loved ones publicly.
The fire devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed footage show the roof structure igniting as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Officials have stated that it could take considerable time to identify the fatalities of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of 40 people and wounded another over a hundred. A spokesperson stated on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process still underway to locate the other six.
In the waiting period, loved ones have been posting on social media to appeal for information about their friends who were at the bar that fateful night.
Appeals for the Missing
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a publication that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's terrible," she said.
She explained that some of his companions had been found with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has said that a number of of its young people are still unaccounted for.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him passion and true sportsmanship."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother told reporters that he had been on holiday but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend said they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
